was spokesman for Young Ireland

William Smith O'Brien political leader of Young Ireland.

Idealistic, he was forced to fight and did a poor job of

it as his aristocratic upbringing and lack of military

knowledge guaranteed defeat.

He ended up in exile in Australia.
