Interment was at Bixby Cemetery, Bixby, Okla., under the direction of Jack Selby, Bixby Funeral Service. Mrs. Wilkerson was born June 19, 1917, at Bixby, Okla., the first daughter of Lee Cummings and Genette Stearns Cummings. She died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Maplewood Care Center in Tulsa, Okla. Folks traveling 151st and Memorial will remember Jerry as the little old lady in her yard, bent over with her hoe in hand. She had a passion for keeping her place looking neat, a job that grew harder after the death of her husband Robert in 2000. She adored her siblings: big brother Lyle, then, Bobby and Wayne. The baby of the family, Genevieve, was like Jerry's own daughter. As the oldest girl, Jerry always felt she needed to "help Momma." She was like this about everyone she thought she could help. She helped raise niece Sue after Lyle died, cared for aging friends and nursed ailing family members. Jerry and Bob married in 1943 and worked in various states after the war, finding their true careers in owing and operating drive-in restaurants, first in Haskell and later in Garland, Texas. They returned to Bixby in order for Jerry to help care for her invalid mother, Gennette, and her step-father, Charlie Williams. The Wilkersons were active in the Bixby First Baptist Church, loved to travel the U.S. in their RV, fished Ft. Gibson Lake as often as possible, made Bulletin headlines with their super-sized vegetables, and enjoyed holding garage sales. After falling in her home in August, Jerry's walking days ended. Knowing she would never pull another weed, she died on Sept. 21. She is survived by niece, Sue Hoevelman, and husband, Ralph, niece Laquita Maxwell and husband, Cobb, nephew Phillip Sherrill and cousins Pauline Stone and Maxine Wendlent. The final Wilkerson garage sale will be the first weekend in November with proceeds going to the Bixby Historical Society.
