School Year 1954-55

Raymond Harvey was the superintendent of schools; Maurice L. Goff, high school principal; and Jimmie B. Dyer, grade school principal. The Board of Education was R. E. Daily, C. G. Mitchell, E. R. Garrett, Tom Brassfield and Carl Row.

The Faculty

There were thirty faculty members: Alma Reta Auld, Walsa Castleberry, Cleon Auld, Veda Clemons, May Boles, Roy Dawson, Sarah Deaver, Frieda Hendon, Myra Koone, Dorothy Othick, Carl Fenderson, Alvis Houser, Earnest Crocker, Elzora Biggers, Velma Crocker, Nora Laws, Lois Shimp, Mary Jo Hagg, Joel P. Johnson, Aletha Mitchell, Ethel Spradling, Jennie Harvey, Claudia Jones, Mae Neely and Alameta Yerley.

The Honors

Those receiving special honors were: Ruth Farrar, annual editor; Katherine Buchanan, FHA president and band queen; Herschel Edwards, Harold Summers and Don Ham, football co-captains; Don Ham, basketball captain; Loretta Washington, football queen; Bernice (Reynolds) Horn, Betty (Phillips) Farrar and Betty Guinn, football queen attendants; T. C. Lemons, student council president; John Smith, FFA president; James King, FHA king; and Patsy Grotts, FFA sweetheart. The Annual Staff of dedicated the year yearbook to Clifford �Red� Rogers.

The Seniors

Seniors graduating this year were: Emma Sue Ballenger, Phillip Benson, Jack Bradley, Katherine Buchanan, Herschel Edwards, Bob Davis, Gene Cousins, Marjorie (Carr) Watkins, Betty (Phillips) Farrar, Ruth Farrar, Lois Focht, Jerry Green, Patsy Grotts, Betty Guinn, Norma Jo Haikey, Don Ham, Don Hayes, Bill Lewis, Bernice (Reynolds) Horn, J. R. Massey, Alvis Houser, Dean Melson, T. C. Lemons, Alice McLaughlin, Tommy McMurray, Allie Mae Peevyhouse, Betty Miller, Norman Pruitt, Paul Neafus, Eula Pults, Helen Othick, Eddie Sager, Garland Shepherd, Don Summers, Don Smith, Homer Skelton, Horald Summers, Frank Turinsky, John Smith, Cecil Wallace, Loretta Washington, Wiley Washington, Marvalene Wood and Franklin Watkins.

The Activities

They had many extra-curricular activities: paper staff, annual staff, pep club � cheerleader, Spanish club, band � twirler, library staff, projection club, D.O. Club, 4-H club, dancing club, National Honor Society, junior play, senior play, FHA, mixed chorus, girls trio, FTA, student council, football, boys basketball and girls basketball.

The Sports

The girls basketball tean played in the Miami Invitational Tournament, County Tournament, District Tournament and the Regionals. Members of the team are: Betty Guinn, Lula Hogan, Coleen Graham, Iantha James, Norma Jo Haikey, Margaret Wilson, Allie Mae Peevyhouse, Barbara Young, Anna Mae Clayton, Carol Baker, Shirley Ham, Norma Sumner, Vera Garrett and Freddie Jo Hunter. They had a fairly good year of basketball.

The boys basketball team played in the Miami Invitation, County and District Tournaments. The team consisted of ten very good basketball players: Frank Kelly, Don Ham, A. D. James, James King, Eugene Nichols, Joe Langston, Paul Neafus, Philip Benson, Phillip Baker and Marvin Wells.

There were 31 boys on the football team: Jimmy Lees, Wiley Washington, Larry Baker, Mark Gibson, Robert Summers, Don Smith, Paul Neafus, Bob Parker, Jerry Walker, Douglas Watkins, Danny John, Joe Langston, Harold Summers, Phillip Baker, Eddie Sager, Herschel Edwards, Jack Gibson, Grady Ullrich, Garland Shepherd, Wayne McClain, Carl Foster, Jerry Greene, Don Ham, A. D. James, Jack Thomas, Eddie McLearn, Alvis Houser, Frank Turinsky, Chester Turner, Danny Lawhorn and Marvin Wells.
