Other Details: Jacob and his wife were two of the thousands of protestant Huguenots fleeing French persecution by the Catholic King Louis XIV. French massacres of Huguenots were common. In 1685, the revocation of the Edict of Nantes removed most of their rights in France unless they became Catholic. It is likely that Jacob and Marie fled to Mutterstadt some time after this Royal Decree and before 1692 when their first child was born in Mutterstadt.

Sources: All of this information comes from the research of Scott Wallace and has not been verified elsewhere.

  1. Wallace cites a 1997 letter from James A. Jurney which cites what appears to be a death record from "Sterberegister of Mutterstadt": "Starb: 22 April 1759; begraben: 23 ditto; Namen: Elisabeth Transols, Weiland Antoine le Roy gewese nee r einwoher in der Picardie et refugiers; Alter: bey nahn 100 jahrs; Familie: mit Jacob Transols - 3 Sohn 5 Tochter."
