Other Details: Jacob and his wife were two of the thousands of Protestant Huguenots fleeing French persecution by the Catholic King Louis XIV. French massacres of Huguenots were common. In 1685, the revocation of the Edict of Nantes removed most of their rights in France unless they became Catholic. It is likely that Jacob and Marie fled to Mutterstadt some time after this Royal Decree and before 1692 when their first child was born in Mutterstadt.
