Other Details: Wilks was part Native American. I seem to recall he or someone told me he was part Cherokee. He was raised in western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. He also served in WWII (April 29, 1943 - Nov. 24, 1945)5 and was wounded in the Pacific theater. He once showed me the scar on his shoulder where he was shot by a Japanese soldier.*
Buried at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL5 I believe he had his wife's ashes buried with him, although there is no record of this.*
Wilks also helped raise Dolores' three other children from her previous marriage to John Troy: Robert John Troy, [Living Troy], and Paul Troy.

* Much of this is from personal memory or discussions I had years ago and am not certain of the exact source. Other than my mother telling me he came from the Pittsburgh area, I never discussed the Hedglin family with Wilks or anyone who had and direct information about the family.
** Mother's maiden name and married name were both Hedglin.
