Michael arrived in the United States from Ireland sometime
before August of 1850.
The 1850 US Federal Census lists
Michael living in Bucks County, Bristol Township,
Pennsylvania.
It is assumed that Michael and
Sarah Duffy were married in Pennsylvania about 1854.
Their first two children were
both born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, so it is also assumed
that is where they lived after
their marriage. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois
sometime prior to the birth of
their third child in August of 1860. They are listed in the
1860 US Federal Census living
in Chicago.
The 1870 US Federal Census lists
Michael's occupation as gardener. Michael is listed
in the 1900 US Federal Census,
73 years old, widower, retired Day Laborer, living
with son Michael Peter at 4214
South Artesian in Chicago's 29th Ward.
