Descendants of Hugh Carr

Descendants of Hugh Carr

During the Civil War Hugh Carr and his family lived in Greencastle, Pa near the border of Virginia and only a few miles from the sleepy little town of Gettysburg. . Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia marched through Greencastle both on their way to the Battle of Gettysburg and on their painful return.
I've often wondered if the Carr family made the short trip to Gettysburg on the day that President Lincoln delivered the speech that "the world would little note or long remember". The next time you see a photo of Gettysburg Address be sure to look closely at the gathering. You ancestor may be staring out at you.
