Bayou Chicot, Evangeline Parish, Louisiana
Researcher: Michael Van Walker
Cemetery Consultant: Laurant Helmer
Research Date: Oct/Nov 1999
================================================

*Sxxx-x-x* = * "S"ite number - plot letter - number of pictures*

x_x = reference to combined headstone or plots connected in some fashion

(W.O.W.) = Woodmen of the World memorials

(footstone) = any object placed at the end of the grave/tomb/slab with markings on it, usually initials but some military markers are placed here or old headstones. Photos not provided of simple stones with initials equal to the headstone name.

01. Duplicate names will be found. Usually this is due to an old marker or other identifier with a spelling/date variant

02. Any letter/number found within "()" is a guess based on what I saw.
Ex.: M(A)RK, the A being assumed based on cuts examined OR other letters found on same or similar stones nearby.

03. A "?" is used to represent unknown letters/numbers of unknown quantities
Ex.: Jo? could be Joe, John or Johnny, etc.

04. A "-" was used to represent unknown letters/numbers of a known quantity
Ex.: Al--- could be any 5 letter name such as Alice or Alvin

05. A death date shown as "(blank)" would be a tomb/marker presumably reserved for a living person

06. Letter case, punctuation and mis-spellings are as viewed on actual markers, within the limits of this document format

07. Most markers lacking punctuation and containing military data are government issue from the V.F.W. Administration

08. Several plots have masonry pots, vases, or whatever built into the slab with the initial of the family name on it. These are not normally noted unless they differ from the epitaphs.

09. Anything in () was added by the researcher for informational purposes Ex.: (footstone) or Mable C. (CARTER) for combined headstones of a couple

10. "(unmarked adult/child)" refers to lack of standard headstones used throughout the cemetry. Any other identifying material will be noted. Such as "(funeral home marker)". ADDITIONAL

I've found one other inventory of this cemetery:
Source Location:
Clayton Library, Houston, TX
Source:
Louisiana Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. 7
Daughters of the American Revolution
Copied and Published by The Louisiana Society N.S.D.A.R. 1954-1957
#GEN 976.3 D238

Once I completed my work, I found there to be several obvious errors in this document. But it does possibly provide clues to some of the incomplete names or unmarked plots. Be sure to review this document during your research.
