The last will and testament of Catherine D. Coffin, Herkimer, Herkimer, NY, 1883

I, Catherine D. Coffin of the town and county of Herkimer and State of New York, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish, and declare this my last will and testament in manner following:

First, I direct the payment by my executor hereinafter named of my just debts, funeral charges, and expenses of administering my estate.

Second, I give and devise to my son John W. Coffin all the property of which I shall die seized and possessed both real and personal, in trust to pay the rents, issues, profits, and income thereof to my husband Edward C. Coffin during his natural.

Third, After the death of my said husband I give and devise all my property both real and personal subject to the following bequests, to my three children John W. Coffin, Emma C. Coffin and Catherine M. Coffin, to be divided among them, share and share alike.

Fourth, I give and bequeath to my two sons Isaac F. and Edward J. each the sum of five dollars to be paid to them after the death of my said husband. The reason these bequests are limited to five dollars is that it is my intention to assist my son Isaac F. by way of advances in his medical studies, and the said Edward J. has already been advanced what I consider his share of my estate.

Fifth, I hereby appoint my son John W. Coffin sole executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

In testamony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 16th day of August, 1883

signed - Catherine D. Coffin
