The last will and testament of Catherine M. Coffin, Herkimer, Herkimer, NY, 27 Sep 1913

I, Catherine M. Coffin, of the town of Herkimer, in the County of Herkimer and State of New York, being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish, and declare this my last Will and testament, in manner following, that is to say:

First, I direct the payment of my lawful debts, the expenses of administering my estate, and my funeral charges.

Second, I give and bequeath unto my sister, Emily C. Coffin, all the real and personal property that I may be possessed of or legally entitled to at the time of my death, to be hers absolutely. In the event of my sister's decease prior to my own all the real and personal property that I may be possessed of or legally entitled to at the time of my death, shall be administered as follows:

Third, I give and bequeath to the trustees of the Northern New York Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, incorporated by the legislature of the State of New york the sum of Three Thousand Dollars to be held in trust and invested by it as a part of the Preachers' Permanent Fund, and the income thereof used for the benefit and assistance of the superannuated ministers, and the widows and orphans of such as have died in the itinerant work in said Northern New york Conference, and the receipt of the treasurer of said Board of Trustees shall be sufficient discharge to my exeecutor for the same.

Fourth, I give and bequeath to the Board of Foreign Missions of the Methodist Episcopal Church incorporated by the Legislature of the State of New York, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars, and the receipt of the trasurer thereof shall be a sufficient discharge to my executor for the same.

Fifth, I give and bequeath to the Board of Home Missions and Church Extension of the Methodist Episcopal Church, incorporated by the Legislature of the State of Pennsylvania, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars, and the receipt of the treasurer thereof shall be sufficient discharge to my executor for the same.

Sixth, I give and bequeath to the Freedman's Aid Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, a corporation under the laws of the state of Ohio, the sum of Five Hundred Dollars. The receipt of the treasurer shall be sufficient discharge to my executor for the same.

Seventh, I give and bequeath to the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, incorporated by the legislature of the State of New York, the sum of Five Hundred Dollars, and the receipt of the treasurer thereof shall be a sufficient discharge to my executor for the same.

Eighth, I give and bequeath to the Woman's Home Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, a corporation under the laws of the State of Ohio, the sum of Five hundred Dollars, and the receipt of the treasurer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executor for the same.

Ninth, I give and bequeath to the Old Ladies Home of Mohawk, Herkimer County, New York, the sum of One thousand Dollars. The receipt of the treasurer shall be sufficient discharge to my executor for the same.

Tenth, I give and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate both real and personal unto the corporation known as the First Methodist Episcopal Church, of Ilion, N.Y., with the direction that Two Hundred ($200) dollars, more or less, as the Trustees of the said church may decide, shall be used to purchase a baptismal font for the use of the church, said font to be a memorial to my Father and Mother, Edward and Catherine Coffin, and shall be so inscribed. Also I direct that the oil paintings belonging to me at the time of my death shall be used by the trustees of the church in beautifying its parlors and Sunday School rooms, provided, however, that if the village of Ilion within ten years of my decease, shall become possessed of a Village Hall for the use of the various patriotic, literary, or other societies in the Village, then these paintings, aforementioned, shall become the property of the Village of Ilion, for use in such Hall. If, within the time specified in this clause, such Village Hall shall not have been provided, then the aforementioned paintings shall become the property of the above mentioned Church. Also, I direct that the balance accruing from ym estate to the aforementioned Church under this provision of my will shall be safely invested by the Trustees of the church, and the income used for the perpetual care of the parsonage furniture and the parsonage property belonging to said church.

Lastly, I hereby make, nominate, and appoint Samuel J. Greenfield, of Utica, N.Y., to be the sole executor of this my last Will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made; and I hereby give my Executor poewr and authority to sell and dispose of any or all of my real estate for the purpose of paying the legacies aforesaid, or for any other purpose as he may see fit, and I hereby make the said bequests a charge upon my said real estate.

In Testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal and subscribed my name this 27 day of September, 1913.
