Partition Deed for the sons of Edward Coffin

This Indenture, and Deed of Partition, made the 15th day of October 1824, by and between Isaac Coffeen & Margaret his wife, Jacob Coffeen and Sally his wife, Joseph Coffeen and Matilda his wife, John Coffeen and Nancy his wife, Edward Coffeen and Maria his wife, Abraham Coffeen and Anna his wife, and Benjamin Coffeen & Amy his wife, being heirs at law, and devisees to the last will and testament of Edward Coffeen late of Deerfield, Oneida County deceased, Witnesseth, that we have all and severally agreed upon the following equitable partition and division of the Landed estate situate in the said town of Deerfield, which was devised unto us by the said Edward Coffeen deceased jointly subject to be divided between us and subject also to the right of Dower and power of this & of our Mother, wife and Widow of the said deceased.

And the following partition and division is established and each of the said parties are to have, hold, and enjoy the part and piece of land and premises allotted and set off to them, and to their heirs and assigns forever.

That is to say, that the said farm, which contains two hundred acres of land is by this deed and agreement divided in to seven equal parts by lines running through from the north to the south side of the said farm parallel with the County line and parallel with each other, which said pieces are about Eighteen rods wide from East to West, and are numbered in said partition 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7:

Beginning on the East side of said farm at the county line for share No. 1 which is allotted and conveyed as before mentioned unto the said Jacob Coffeen and Sally his wife; Share next adjoining on the west is called Share No. 2, and is allotted and conveyed unto the said Joseph Coffeen, and Matilda his wife; next on the west is Share No. 3 and is allotted and conveyed unto the said Edward Coffeen and Maria his wife; next on the west is Share No. 4, and is allotted and conveyed unto Isaac Coffeen and Margaret his wife aforesaid; next on the west is Share No. 5, and is allotted and conveyed unto Benjamin Coffeen and Amy his wife aforesaid; next on the west is Share No. 6, and is allotted and conveyed unto Abraham Coffeen and Anna his wife; and next and lastly on the west is Share No. 7, which is allotted unto the said John Coffeen and Nancy his wife.

All of which several pieces are to be held and enjoyed by them to whom they are allotted, and to their heirs and assigns forever. State of New York, Herkimer County: On the 27th day of February 1836 personally appeared, John Coffin & Nancy his wife before me, on the 7th day of March same year came Joseph Coffin & Matilda his wife, on the 20th day of August, 1836, Abraham Coffin & Isaac Coffin & Margaret Coffin, wife of said Isaac personally appeared before me, and on the 25 day of February 1837 came Jacob Coffin & Sally his wife, Benjamin Coffin and Amy his wife, & Anna Coffin wife of the said Abraham Coffin to me known to be twelve of the grantors of the within deed, and severally acknowledged that they executed the said deed for the use and purpose therein expressed, and the said Matilda, Nancy, Margaret, Sally, Amy, and Anna, being by me examined separate and apart from their husbands, acknowledged that they executed the same voluntarily without fear or compulsion of their said husbands. Let it be recorded: Richard Herendeen, Judge of Herkimer County Courts.

State of New York, Erie County: On this 15th day of November 1836, before me personally appeared Edward Coffin and Maria his wife, known to me to be two of the grantors of the within deed, and they acknowledged the execution thereof; and the said Maria in a private examination separate and apart from her husband acknowledged that she had executed the same freely without any fear or compulsion of her husband. : D. State of New York, Herkimer County: Erwin A. Munson, Clerk of the County of Herkimer do certify that Richard Herendeen Esquire, whose name is subscribed to the certificate of the proof or acknowledgement of the annexed instrument, in writing and endorsed therein, was at the time of taking such proof or acknowledgement a judge of the Herkimer County Courts in and for said County, dwelling inthe said County and duly authorized to take the same, and that I am well aquainted with his handwriting, and verily believe his name subscribed to the said certificate to be his genuine signature. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the said County.
