The last will and testament of Orissa (Coffin) Eddy, Newport, Herkimer, NY, 18 Nov 1903

In the name of God, Amen. I, Orissa A. Eddy, of the village of Newport, Herkimer County N.Y., being of sound mind and memory, do make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, that is to say:

First, After all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, I give and bequeath to my sister Jane Brown the sum of one thousand dollars ($1000).

Second, I give and bequeath to my niece Mary Mead the sum of one thousand dollars.

Third, I give and bequeath to my niece Fanny Levison the sum of Five hundred dollars.

Fourth, I give and bequeath to my niece Mattie Hayden the sum of five hundred dollars.

Fifth, I give and bequeath to my nephew John Roberts the sum of five hundred dollars.

Sixth, I give and bequeath to my nephew John Brown the sum of five hundred dollars, but if he die before me, I give and bequeath the said five hundred dollars to my said sister Jane Brown.

Seventh, I give and bequeath to my nephew Henry Rowley the sum of five hundred dollars.

Eighth, I give to my niece Libbie Hollan the sum of five hundred dollars, in trust, nevertheless to invest the same and pay the income and interest therefrom to my brother Wellington Coffin, and may pay to him any part or the whole of said principal sum of five hundred dollars at such times and in such amounts as she shall see fit, during the term of his natural life, and if any part of said principal sum shall remain unexpended at the time of his decease, I give and bequeath said residue and remainder to my said niece Mary Mead.

Ninth, I give to Mary Mead eight silver teaspoons, 1 large spoon, 1 dessert spoon, 1 silver sugar tongs, 1 sugar spoon, 1 jet breast pin and silver stick pin to match, one white quilt made by me, one silk quilt "log cabin pattern", 2 Sofa pillows and the pillow she gave me, and one rug on parlor floor.

Tenth, I give to my niece Libbie Hollon, 1 Sofa pillow, 1 rug on parlor floor, six silver teaspoons, also a teaspoon marked "L.E." and a teaspoon marked "O. Coffin", one large spoon, 1 dessert spoon, my bedroom set off "Sitting Room", my gold watch & chain.

Eleventh, I give to Mary Mead, Libbie Hollon, and my adopted daughter Carrie Comins, to be divided between them, as near equally in value as may be, the following articles viz.: my beds and bedding, napkins, table cloths, towels (except table cloth "Lord's Supper" pattern, 12 napkins and tray cloth worked with black which I give to Carrie Comins), my clothing (except my fur cloak and my ribbed silk dress which I give to Carrie Comins).

Twelfth, I give to Margarite Comins my piano and all music at my residence.

Thirteenth, I give to my said adopted daughter Carrie Comins my large parlor mirror, the portraits of my husband, myself, and my deceased daughter Louisa and all of her drawings during the life of the said Carrie Comins, and at her decease, I give all the same to my niece Libbie Hollon to be hers absolutely forever.

Fourteenth, I give and devise to my said adopted daughter Carrie Comins my house and lot where i now reside situate in thesaid village of Newport together with the household furniture, chattels and effects in and about said house and lot at the time of my decease, except money and securities for money and also except the articles and personal property specifically mentioned and bequeathed to others herein) to be hers absolutely forever. I also bequeath to her the sum of one thousand dollars in money.

Fifteenth, all the rest, residue, and remainder of my real and personal estate of every name and nature I give and devise to my said niece Mary Mead to be hers absolutely forever.

Likewise, I make, constitute, and appoint my said nieces Mary Mead and Libbie Hollon and my friend Milton Howe of Poland, N.Y. to be executors of this, my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal, the 18th day of November, in the year one thousand nine hundred and three.
