Henry was in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was a
captain of Co. G, Third Tennesse Infantry of the Federal army.
Records indicate that he joined the Third East Tennessee
Volunteers, on February 10,1862 at Flat Lick, Kentucky for a
period of 3 years. In a memorandum from Prisoner of War
Records, it states that he was captured 30 August 1862, and
confined at Richmond, Virginia. It later states that he was
paroled at Richmond and reported to Cincinati, Ohio. He later
reported as a Capt. to Co. G, Third Regt. Tenn. Infantry, aged
45 years at Nashville, Tenn., on Feb. 23, 1865, saying that he
was last paid 31 Dec. 1862. REMARKS: Joined the Co. to fill an
original vacancy Fec. 10. 1862, dismissed by special order
number 130 from the Secretary of War. Restored by special order
number 217 from Secretary of War, dated June 23, 1864 and not
yet reported for duty.He was taken by the Rebals, paroled . On
30 June 1864, he was under the command of Col. L. C. Houk. In a
copy of one set of his orders, it says the following:
Special Order Number 50.
Headquarters 1st Brigade 2nd Division Murfreesboro
Tenn,........1863
1) Captain Henry G. Hodges Co, G. 3rd Regiment E G V P or F
being absent at Nashville with authority is ordered to report
himself to his company and regiment for duty at once.
2) All other Officers and soldiers without authority absent from
this command are likewise ordered to report themselves for duty
to their Companies and Regiments without delay.
