Rev War: Battle of King's Mtn 7 Oct 1780; Peter Quin's place was six or seven miles from King's Mountain. Peter at age 60, moved to SW MS abt 1811 or 1812, by 1813 he had settled in the Bogue Chitto River Valley on Section 22.


Peter Quin, Sr. owned the NE qtr Sec 29 and the Quin homestead overlooked the new townsite. The Holmesville Cemetery was est. on Peter Quin's land. Peter Quin, Jr. was elected one of the five trustees for the new town, and 1st Probate Judge, State Rep, three of his sons later served in the legislature.


Pike Co. MS was est. out of Marion Co. and included all of present Pike and Walthall Counties and the last to be formed before MS became a state. Peter Quin, Jr. became Justice of the Quorum; Henry Quin, Justice of the Peace; and Peter Quin, Sr. County Treasurer. In 1820 Holmesville became the County Seat.

5.Hugh b 12 Jan 1785 d. 23 Apr 1864. m. Frances Carruth Allison. bur. Palo Alto, MS; Issue 8. Missionary Baptist Preacher and Medical Doctor - Resided in NE GA until abt 1830. Organized the Palo Alto, Clay Co. MS Baptist Ch in 1845.

7.Mary b 1789 m. Abner McAfee (d. 1844-45- Will) - lived and died in Cleveland Co. NC. Issue 6.


Peter's son Rev Hugh Quinn, who married the widow of Thomas Allison and lived at the ferry on Main Broad River now known as Ellis Ferry. Peter first settled at McCash, about two miles distant from the mouth of Buffalo. He lived there until about 1811 when he and several others of the Quinn family moved to Mississippi. There are several of the same Quinn family remaining here."

"Nicholas belonged to a Richmondshire family that took its name from the township of Stapleton, on the south bank of the Tees, about two miles south-west of Darlington, in which it possessed a small estate. The first member of the family to attain any position was Nicholas De Stapleton I, who was Custos of Middleham Castle in the reign of King John and was the father of Nicholas De Stapleton II, the father of the first?mentioned Nicholas III. Nicholas III served as a Judge of the King's Bench between 1272 and 1290, held sixteen caracates of land scattered throughout Yorkshire, besides some Berkshire lands that he obtained from his wife, and died in 1290."
