That George, Molly, Judith, Susan, Polly and Elizabeth Dudley
were the nearest of kin (being his uncles and aunts) on the
maternal side. His mother was Betsey Dudley who died before her
husband, Peter Bernard.
That George Dudley died intestate, leaving two children:--George
Dudley (who died intestate, leaving one only heir, George M.
Dudley who is still living) and Elizabeth (who married Oswald S.
Jones and is still living).
That Molly Dudley (aunt of Dudley Bernard), married Abraham
Iveson and died intestate leaving four children:--George D.,
Nancy, Elizabeth, and Martha Iveson.
That Martha Iveson married William Nicholson and has since died
rotestate and without issue.
That Elizabeth Iveson her sister, married Lewis W. Wyatt and
died leaving three sons:--James, Robert, and Lewis Wyatt, and
two daughters:--Elizabeth (married Jacob Saunders) and Mary
Wyatt, all of whom are now living.
That Judith Dudley (aunt of Dudley Bernard) married a Mr. Booker
of Essex County and died intestate, leaving six [p.62]
children,-- George, James, Elizabeth, Judith (now the wife of
John S. Cox), Sarah H. (now the wife of Musco Garnett) and
Dorothea (now the wife of William A. Garnett).
That Sukey (Susan) Dudley (aunt of Dudley Bernard) married
Robert Ransome and died intestate, leaving the following
children:--John, James W., Polly (now Polly Cooke), Elizabeth
(now Gibbs), and Martha Ransome, all of whom are now living and
of legal age, except John who died in the year 1828, intestate,
leaving three children:-- John M., Robert W., and William P.
Ransome, who are now living but under lawful age.
That Polly Dudley (aunt of Dudley Bernard) married Major Richie
Ayres, and died intestate, leaving the following
children:--John, George, Samuel, William, James, Armistead,
Peggy, Polly and Elizabeth Richie. That Polly and George (Note,
Patty, or Polly, and George Ayres are meant) died intestate and
without issue.
The following powers of attorney granted by various claimants of
land bounty due for the service of Peter Bernard will show
various relationships.
First. Mary Cooke and John T. Cooke; Mary Cooke being a daughter
of Susan Ransome, who was formerly Susan Dudley, Appointed
Philip M. Tabb, Atty.
Second, Eliza G. Lambeth of Lynchburg for land due her as
Executrix of George K. Lamberts estate. George Lambeth was one
of the sons of Frances Lambeth, a sister of Peter Bernard.
Note. This name is spelled Lambert and Lambeth in the same

Third, George M. Dudley of Georgia, now on a visit in Virginia,
2nd Nov., 1833, appointed Tabb and Brooke his Attys.
Fourth. Jacob I. Saunders and Elizabeth Saunders of Matthews
Co., Elizabeth being one of the children of Elizabeth Wyatt who
was Elizabeth Iveson, one of the daughters of Molly Iveson,
formerly Molly Dudley.
Fifth, Lewis B. Wyatt, Matthews Co., father and natural guardian
of James, Robert, Lewis and Mary Wyatt, who are Children of
Elizabeth, formerly Elizabeth Iveson who was dau of Molly
(Dudley) Iveson. Appoint Tabb and Brooke, Attest, Saml. Digges,
J. of P. 14 Nov., 1833. Virginia Soldiers of 1776 . page 63.
Sixth, Muscoe Garnett and Sarah H. Garnett of Essex Co. Sarah
was one of the children of Judith Booker, decd. who was Judith
Dudley.
Seventh, George D. Iveson of Matthews Co. appointed same Atty.
Eighth, Eliza Booker of Essex Co., one of the children of Judith
Booker, decd., appointed same Atty., Witnesses, James R. Micou,
Jr. and Thos. Matthews, 9 Jan., 1834.
Ninth, John I. Cox and Judith Cox, the said Judith Cox being a
daughter of Judith Booker, decd.
Tenth, George J. Booker of Richmond, Va., one of the children of
Judith Booker, appointed Tabb and Brooke, witnesses, Edward
Riddick and G. H. Pettitts.
Eleventh, James Booker, (son of Judith Booker) appointed same
Atty., acknowledged before John W. Rice, J. of P. Shenandoah
Co., 7 Jan., 1834. Witnessed by Samuel and Eastman Coffman.
Twelfth, W. A. Garnett and Dorothy of Essex Co. (Dorothy was
formerly Dorothy Booker, a daughter of Judith Booker.
Thirteenth, Meredith Lambeth, Washington Lambeth and Bernard
Lambeth all of Campbell Co., Three of the sons out of the five
children of our deceased Mother, Frances Lambeth, who was a
sister of Bernard (Peter), decd. a Captain of Infantry in the
Rev. War appoint John H. Price of Richmond, Va. our Atty. 8
June, 1835. Acknowledged before Richd. Perkins, J. of P.
Campbell Co.
Fourteenth, James W. Ransome of Gloucester Co. a child of Sukey

A Memorandum filed with the above papers:--Captain Peter
Bernards brothers and sisters were, John Bernard who left four
children, namely, Elizabeth Wells (widow of Willis Wells); Ann
B. Johnston (wid of Peter Johnston); (Hen)ningham Copeland (wife
of Charles Copeland); Judith Merriwether (wife of Douglas
Merriwether) ---- Frances, who married Meridith Lambeth and
whose children are:--Bernard Lambeth, Meridith and Washington
Lambeth. Children of Frances who are dead:--John Lambeth (who
left two children, William and Frances) and George Lambeth, who
is dead and left Susan Francis, John, George Henry, and Fayette.
The following is from an envelope which evidently had contained
papers relative to the claims of the heirs of Peter Bernard.

Elizabeth Gibbs, Mary Cook (Cocke), and James W., Martha,
Robert, John M., and William Ransome, No. 8461 for 400 acres;
John T., and James Armistead; William, James, Peggy, and
Elizabeth Ayers No. 8462, for 400 acres--all issued 5 Aug.,
1837.
Recd. of the Register, warrants as above for 400 acres each
issued to the heirs and distributees of Peter Bernard, decd.
