..."ON PG. 128 IT IS STATED THAT NO RECORD OF THE IMMIGRANT JOHN
STURDIVANT EXISTED AFTER 1681. ON P. 351 OF THE 3RD EDITION OF
ADVENTURERS OF PURSE AND PERSON (1987) J. F. DORMAN, ED., A
LETTER
FROM WILLIAM BYRD I OF 29 APRIL 1685 is quoted to the effect
that the "old" Sturdivant, his son, and several others were
killed by the Kindians on their retuen westward from a terading
expedition, thirty miles west of Occaneechee.
It is surmised that the son refered to was named John after his
father.
On p. 130, the 1733 grant to Daniel and James Sturdivant later
fell in Amelia County, not Dinwiddie Co., On 2 Jan. 1737, James
Sturdivant, was granted 620 acres in Amelia in the fork between
the main Deep Creek and the Sellers Fork, bounded among others,
Daniel Sturdivant, 400 acres formerly granted to Daniel
Sturdivant, decd in 1725 and conveyed by him to James Sturdivant
(patent Book 17, p. 435) according to Amelia Co., Deed Book 5,
pg 24, James Sturdivant of Bristol Parish, Prince George Co.,
deeded to son Jame Sturdivant, Jr., 400 acres & personal
property on 26 June 1753. On Oct. 1758, also in Amelia Daniel
Sturdivant of Prince George conveyed to his son James, land
taken up by his father, Daniel Sturdivant, decd, on the south
side of Deep Creek, bounded by James Sturdivant among others.
This deed was witnesses by William & Sarah Parham. The Amelia
marriage bond of a Daniel and Martha, the daughter of William
Parham, was dated Dec., 1784. These land records suggest that
Daniel, son of the immigrate John, was dead before 1737 abd gad
at keast twi sibsm Daniel & James... THE STURDIVANT FAMILY, By
C. T. Smith, Jr. by 105"
