Regarding John Baugh Will, I have a John Baugh married to a Jane
Walthall, daughter of Francis Walthall (b. c1698 d.13 Jan 1770)
and Martha Lockett Walthall. I didnt have the names of any of
their children.
Archard Bass (the witness) was the son of William Bass, Jr. and
Mary Walthall Bass, cousin of Jane.
Benjamin Osborne (another witness) was married to Mary Walthall,
another cousin of Jane.
There was a Sarah Baugh, dtr. of William Baugh, m. Richard
Walthall (2732-1763). Richard was another cousin of Jane.
Most of the above came from a FTM CD, so I don't know about the
accuracy.
Did Thomas MackGehee have a second wife named Sarah? I have his
wife as Mary Mumford, and their daughter who m. John Lipscomb as
being named Dinah.
This is in Thomas' Will dated 1724, unless somebody made an
error in transcribing it OR if there is another Thomas
MackGehee. Thanks for any info. Lucy. [email protected]

I am seeking and have been looking very hard for the parents and
family of my gg grandfather Archibald Bolling (A.B.) BAUGH who
was b. ca 1792 in VA.
(FYI, I have been to Mike Page's Baugh site and the ones linked
to it).
In terms of A.B.'s location, this is what I know:
-- 1820 my A.B. -- Archibald Baugh is in Prince George Co
Census. He is the lone male, with some slaves and a "foreign",
probably indentured servant.
The other Archibald Baugh in the 1820 census is the one below,
d. 1824 Petersburg
-- February 1827 Powhatan Co, he marries Caroline WASH, d/o
Lipscomb WASH and
Elizabeth SAUNDERS. She was 21 years old. Their marriage was
witnessed by
Dr. Daniel HARDAWAY and his wife Sarah (JONES) HARDAWAY. We
have been trying to find a connection with them since relatives
often fill this role but their ancestors are out there on
various websites and while there are some Baugh connections,
they are back two generations and the families are close to
Caroline's names, but not direct (I know hers) The 1827
marriage was recorded in Powhatan Co, where not only are there
Baughs but many of
Caroline's parents allied familes.
----- A notation on marriage recording makes it sound like they
were living in Amelia at the time of the marriage. While there
are Baughs in Amelia, there aren't as many as in Caroline's
WASH, SAUNDERS, and BENTLEY, especially, family. There was also
a Wash family land dispute not too long before then. Just to
add a wrinkle, in his son's, Wm Eggleston /Edward BAUGH (my
ancestor) death certificate, he says that his father and
Caroline were married in Richmond a couple of weeks after the
recorded date in Powhatan. We have no idea whether Powhatan is
where the bond was posted and possibly a service performed later
in Richmond, or more likely his descendants in Missouri didn't
really have a clue as to the exact location. We have not
uncovered a family bible.
-- 1830 Census Amelia Co, we find Archibald Bolling Baugh and
his family.
What I know from various sources is that a "Mr. Wash/Walsh" was
in Amelia at this time (probably Caroline's father), that
Archibald Bolling Baugh and a probable brother JOHN BOLLING
BAUGH, had interactions with him, and that Archibald had close
relations with the Egglestons. This is from Dr. Stirling Ford's
medical journals in Amelia late 1820s, early 1830s.
-- ca 1835 or so, Archibald and Caroline move to Barry Co MO,
which became later Lawrence Co MO. With them are Caroline's
sister, Maria/Mariah GOODE WASH, who marries shortly before they
go Samuel WHIPPLE in Amelia Co.
I have been given two theories regarding my "A.B." Baugh's
parents. FIRST, which I very much doubt, is from my now
deceased Aunt who was meticulous in her research. She has a
family group sheet saying that A.B. was the son of Archibald
Baugh, b?, d. April 5, 1824 in Petersburg. He is earlier found
in Chesterfield Co records as well. His first wife Sarah WORSHAM
is said to be A.B.'s mother. They were married in December
1793.
She died in 1795. Archibald married second to her cousin
Rebecca EPPES Worsham in 1797. This Archibald Baugh was Mayor
of Petersburg 1810, Cashier at Farmer'sBank.
According to an obituary in the April 9, 1824, Richmond
Enquirer, he was one of the oldest and most respected
inhabitants of Petersburg. He was the son of Richard and
Margaret (JONES) Baugh. This family is outlined in the
Bolling/Batte papers at the Library of VA website.
The reason that I doubt this set of parents is, his age aside,
their children are outlined in Bolling/Batte, his will, in
numerous bio sketches, etc. Nowhere is there an Archibald
BOLLING mentioned. Also there are no Bollings in their
immediate ancestry according to the Bolling/Batte papers.
Also, regarding Bolling...several Bolling researchers have
looked for me and have found no Bolling/Baugh marriages during
this period. I have also followed the Archibald Bolling b. 1750
very carefully. His children and three wives appear to be all
accounted for. I have also tried, without luck to follow the
Benjamin Bollings (see second theory).
SECOND theory was given by a professional researcher who sounded
very positive, but couldn't find the source. She said that my
A.B. Baugh was the son of John BAUGH and Ann. I have found in
Powhatan a notation of a will probated in late 1817 of a John
Baugh and Ann The will mentions minor sons Benjamin and John.
My Archibald would have been of majority in 1817. Ann later
(1819 or so) marries an O'REILLY. In 1785, I have found in
Prince George location a minister's records of marriage of John
Baugh and Anne WEST.
This could be them.
I have not been able to obtain the 1817 will, and am wondering
if any of you recognize a John Baugh and Anne, possibly West,
probably b. in the 1750-1760 range. I do know about the
marriage of John Baugh and Anne EGGLESTON ca. 1770s (don't have
exact date), but he died and she remarried well before 1790.
For what it is worth in terms of clues, the children of my A.B.
Baugh and Caroline Wash are:
1. Benjamin B. Baugh, born ca. 1828, Virginia (this makes the
John Baugh, d. 1817 look good)
2. Amaliza Middy "Eliza" Baugh, born ca. 1829-30, Virginia
3. Mariah Boland "Prissy" Baugh, born 27 Apr 1831, Virginia
4. Sarah F. Baugh, 19 May 1833, Virginia
5. Andrew Jackson Baugh, born 25 Jul 1836, Amelia Co., Virginia
6. George Henry Baugh, born ca. 1838-1839, Lawrence Co.,
Missouri
7. William Edward/Eggleston Baugh, born 2 Apr 1843, Lawrence
Co., Missouri.
Caroline died soon after William E. was born. FYI, he married
in Missouri a Letsey Catherine SHELTON of former Pittsylvania Co
Sheltons.
I look forward to hearing from any of you with any ideas.
Thank you in advance. Janet (Baugh) Hunter, Alexandria VA

Subject: [VACHESTE] BAUGH 1760s Chesterfield Co Chancery
Records??
I already have an abstract of the 1766 estate settlement case I
am interested in (my John BAUGH Jr., heir of deceased John Baugh
Sr who died intestate in 1761, vs. his mother Mary, brother
Creacher/Critcher, etc, sisters Martha DANCE and Mary). I'd
like to view the full record. There are numerous slaves and the
land in question is in CATHOLE?? in Chesterfield. FYI, after
their father's death, John and sister Mary, still underage chose
William WALTHALL in 1763 to be their guardians, mother Mary was
Crutcher Baugh's guardian. maybe John had those four children
who seemed to be underage in 1761 by his second wife rather late
in life. The website gives the John Baugh in the Chancery
Court's records 1766 Chesterfield, as being born in 1687 and
dying bef 5 Feb 1762 (when the call for the inventory was made).
It lists first wife as Elizabeth Aiken m. 1717, and second as
Mary. Thank you in advance. Janet (Baugh) Hunter
"Chesterfield Deed, p. 44 1 Feb. 1753 William Baugh of Dale

purchased of John Baugh, and all his other land 300 acres; being

formerly lived, next to Thomas Poland.
