"Third son of Gilbert the (official) First earl of Angus and it is suggested that he became a Staller or Steward for Edward II and Edward III. He was definatley at the Royal court and may well have started a completely new branch of the family in the South. Charles D'Olier Umfreville (1906-1967) claimed descent from this Thomas. See 'the Southern Umfrevilles'."
