Family 1 : Cicely REYNOLDS
  1. +William FARRAR II

Notes

"The immigrant ancestor of this family (quoting from Adventurers of Purse and Person) was, "William Farrar baptized 28 April 1583 at Croxton, Lincolnshire, was the third son of John Farrar the Elder (died 1628) of Croxton and of St. Mary, Aldermanbury, London, and his wife (married 25 August 1574, St. Sepulchre's Without Newgate, London) Cicely Kelke, daughter of William Kelke (died 1552) of Barnetby-le-Wold, Lincolnshire. William Farrar's father was of an ancient family of Ewood, in Midgley, Parish of Halifax, Yorkshire. He was a relative of Nicholas Farrar, Sr., (1544-1620) a merchant and leading member of the Virginia Company."

William Farrar I was born in 1583 at Croxton, Lincolnshire, England and christened in the same place on 28 Apr 1583. William arrived in Virginia on August 1618 with Lord De La Warr in the Neptune. He married Cicely Reynolds (c.1600-aft.1637), widow of Samuel Jordan and herself an immigrant of 1611. In 1611 Farrar’s Island was the site of the “Citie of Henrico”, one of Virginia’s first four primary settlement areas under the Virginia Company of London. Later, it was part of a 2,000 acre land patent issued posthumously to William Farrar in 1637. Farrar, who arrived in Virginia from London in 1618 aboard the Neptune, invested in the Company under its third charter. In 1626, Governor Sir George Yeardley appointed Farrar to the governor’s Council, a position occupied until 1632. He also served as a justice for two counties. Farrar family members resided on the island until they sold it to Thomas Randolph on 26 Jan. 1727. William Farrar I died on 11 Jun 1637 at Fararr's Island, Henrico, VA at the age of 54."

per Brøderbund WFT Vol. 5, Ed. 1, Tree #2776: This William Farrar was the first in Virginia and came from England in 1618. he was a member of the Council from 1623 to 1633 and, while no positive proof has been found, it is thought that he married Cicely Jordon, the widow of Samuel Jordan. He died prior to 1637 and left among other children, a son William Farrar II. (Comer and Howard Records - UGA Library)
