He was Rector of the East-West Church for 38 years and is buried
there in a large tomb.; The Cant coat-of-arms is on the window
of this church.
Tombstone Inscription is in Latin except for the first three
lines which are in English: "Heir Lyes Mr Andrew Cant Minister
of ABD Depted Apr 27 1663
Margaret Irvin his spovs"
Probable ancestor, per Marion McCants her research shows that
after the Massacre of Glencoe in 1692 (the site of Clan
MacDonald's massacre in Argyll, Scotland by the Campbells and
English troops) three McCants brothers landed near Donagladee,
about 20 miles from Belfast, Ire on the County Down side. Ref:
"The History of Carrickfergus".
The preferred spelling of the name in Ireland is McCance. David
McCance (b 1684) of Mulligans Town, Dunmurry, died May 22, 1747,
age 63, and is buried in Drumbeg Graveyard, as is his wife
Isabella, d. Aug 29, 1724, age 55. They have many descendants
in County Down, IRE.

SOURCE: Newspaper Clippings from the Macon Messenger, Vol. III
(1838-1842), Tad Evans, page 129:
President Lamar's widowed mother and his daughter came to Texas
from Stewart County, Georgia, in 1839. Mrs. Lamar had her will
prepared on July 24, 1839, but was too ill to sign it. She died
on the 26th and was buried in the City Cemetery, now on West
Dallas Avenue in Houston. In her will, Mrs. Lamar left all of
her property to the lawful issue of her daughter Mary Ann by her
husband Joseph Moreland. It was specified, however, that the
property was not to be distributed until after Mrs. Moreland's
death. At the time of her demise, Mrs. Lamar possessed three
slaves -- John, aged about 27, Amanda, aged about 18, and Alice,
aged about 10 years. Her sons, Mirabeau B. Lamar and Jefferson
J. Lamar of Stewart County Georgia, were named as executors of
her estate."
