WILLIAM CABELL of “Warminster” in Virginia; b. 9th March,
1699-1700; d. 12th April, 1774; was graduated from the London
Royal College of Surgery and Medicine, and served as a Surgeon
in the English Navy; immigrated to Virginia in 1726, and settled
in that portion of Hencico County which was sub-divided into
Goochland in 1728; into Albemarle in 1745, and into Amhurst in
1761 (and is now Nelson County);
Under-Sheriff of Henrico, 1726; County Coroner for Goochland,
1729; Justice of the Peace for Goochland 1728-1745; served in
the Indian Wars against the Tuscaroras or Monican Indians in
1730, and was Captain in the Goochland Militia in and before
1745; settled and christened the present “Warminster,” Virginia,
in 1742; Justice of the Peace for Albemarle, 1745-1761; Burgess
for Albemarle for the sessions beginning 25th March, 1756; 20th
September, 1756; 30th April, 1757, and 30th March, 1758; a
resident of Amherst after 1761, and Burgess for Amherst for the
sessions beginning 3d November, 1761; 14th January, 1762; 30th
March, 1762; 2d November, 1762; 19th May, 1763; 12th January,
1764; 1st May, 1765, and October 1765; m. (firstly) in 1726,
Elizabeth BURKS, b. in 1705, d. 21st September, 1756, dau. of
Samuel and Mary (DAVIS) BURKS of Hanover County, Virginia; m.
(secondly) 30th September, 1762, Margaret MEREDITH; by whom he
had no issue.
