Mother: Judith JOHNS (WIDOW) |
Judith and John settled in Amelia County on 600 acres they
bought from Judith’s brother, Joel Tanner in 1747/8 and 1770 .
Judith had eleven children before the death of her husband. He
was dead before 1773 when they inventoried and appraised his
estate . John did not have a will and the county appointed his
son John Johns administrator and he delivered estate accounts
for 1773-4 . The court ordered an estate report 5 May 1775 . On
25 July 1782, they settled his estate in Amelia County . They
did not name John’s widow so we cannot confirm she was “Judith.”
They did identify William Booth and his wife, Elizabeth Johns,
as beneficiaries.
In 1782 Amelia County listed Judith Johns head of a household of
eight whites and five blacks. Three of the blacks were perhaps
Lewis, Amy, and Caesar, who Judith received in the estate
settlement."
JOHN JOHNS was not named in the Last Will and Testament of
JUDITH JOHNS of Goochland Co., VA (her Will indicated other
unnamed children), but he was probably her son.
