The petition of Thomas A. and Alexander McCants shows that Margery McCants, the petitioners' late mother, departed this life possessed of a real and personal estate and that the petitioners are entitled to a certain portion; that William Thompson and James McCants are themselves entitled and have applied with others for a division; therefore the petitioners request that James McCants be appointed their guardian to represent them in the division of said estate. 1818. p. 133.

Jane McKnight wife of Alexander, RDR. Wit: George Cooper, Sr., William Gibson, and John Gibson, 17 Feb. 1810. William Graham, JQ."

Two of Colonel LATIMER's sons (Robert and Nathanial) were killed by Indians in the fierce fighting just before the Treaty of 1795. Another son, Joseph m. Ann Dobbins, and his descendants settled in Illinois by 1830. General Rufus Putnam organized a land company and included Col. Jonatahn and men he had served with in the Revolutionary War. They traveled from Conn. to an area between the Green River and the Cumberland River which is now the southern part of Kentucky and northern part of Tennessee.

Joan Franklin (Wife)
Children: WILLIAM SUMNER, the settler to America, only child of Roger and Joan Sumner, was born at Bicester, England, in 1605, married there in Oct., 1625, to Mary West. They came to Dorchester, Mass., in 1636, with four children. He was made a freeman of the Colony the following year, 1637; was chosen Selectman the same year and more than twenty other years. In 1663 he was an officer of school lands, Clerk of "ye training band" (soldiers) and Commissioner to try and issue small causes, and from 1658 for many years Deputy to the General Court from Dorchester. He died Dec. 9, 1688. She died June 7, 1676.
