"Peter Carter (Peter (3), Thomas (2)) had grants of land on Tobacco Row Mt., Amherst Co., in 1768 and 1780. In 1783 he was the head of a family of ten and eight servants ;and during the Revolution served as a private in the State artillery. Between 1760 and 1770 he was married to Mary Anne Ellis, daughter of Charles and Susannah Harding Ellis, of "Red Hill," Amherst Co . His will, probated Febryary 7, 1791, age to each of his children a negro and 75 pounds money. All land and other estate to wife during her widowhood and good management. Josiah Ellis and Wm. Crawford executors. Personal estate amounted to 849 pounds, 1 shilling, 6 pence. All children but Charles and Jesse under age in 1790.

Peter Carter had issue as follows: Charles; Jesse; Peter; Susannah; James; Edward (whose will, probated in Amherst May 21, 1832, left his estate to following grandchildren: Garnet, Granville, Mary, Thomas, Powhatan, and Frances Layne, and Anne Cashwell, wife of James Cashwell); Solomon, Milly; Elizabeth; and John (whose will, probated July 15 ,1833, in Amherst, left estate to wife Creasy, and the following children: Mary N., Martha, Jacob D., Shedrach, Wm. C., Elizabeth A., Nancy A., Lucy F., Sarah Anne, Peter D., Verjane, James R., and Caroline M. Carter)."

"Peter Carter, born March 9, 1743, probably in King George county, died in Amherst about January 1791. Besides purchasing land from private parties, he had grants in 1768 and 1780 for land situated on Tobacco Row Mountain, Amherst. In 1783 Peter Carter was the head of a family of ten whites and eight servants. And during the Revolution he was a private in the Virginia artillery. About 1763-1764 Peter Carter was married to Mary Anne Ellis, born Dec. 25, 1747, daughter of Charles and Susannah Harding Ellis, of "Red Hill", Amherst county. She removed in 1798 with her eldest son, Charles Carter, to Kentucky, and died there. In 1849 Mr. Thomas H. Ellis, of Richmond, VA published an account of the Ellis family in pamphlet form, which contains data of interest to the Peter Carter family."

CONFLICT: Undecided who her mother is. see notes on record of John Lackland. "Joan's mother was 'Queen Clementia'. Who that was in reality has proved difficult to determine, but I wouldn't put Agatha high on the list. taf. Her date of birth is unknown, though it was before 1200 (and probably before 1192). She and Llywelyn were married on Ascenciontide 1206, and she died either 30 March 1236 (Tewkesbury Annals) or in February 1237 (Welsh Chronicles).
