Isham C. HODGES

22 Sep 1823 - ____

ID Number: I42995

Father: Edmond (Edmund) HODGES Sr.
Mother: Sarah PEARSON

Family 1 : Selinda Adeline HODGES
  1.  Mary M. HODGES
  2.  John HODGES
  3. +Joseph Warren HODGES
  4.  Charles HODGES
Family 2 : Eliza Jane ELLIOTT
  1.  James Edmund HODGES
  2.  Albert Johnson HODGES

Notes

His parents and place of birth are unknown. Speculate he may be son of Charles Hodges, Jr. Charles Hodges, Sr. b 1752; d. 1836 in Jefferson Co. TN married Francis Callaway b 1758-d. 13 Nov 1851 (1857?). Also In the 1830 Census of Jefferson Co. TN there is Welcome Hodges, ad in the 1840 Census William Hodges, possibly same person, William Welcome Hodges, brother of Charles, Jr.

From pg. 430 of the 1850 census of Calloway Co, KY. ISHAM C. HODGES was born between 17 Aug 1823 and 17 Aug 1824 in TN.

After Selinda died in 1856, Isham C. wound up in Hickman Co. Ky. where he married Eliza Jane Elliott. I have not been able to tie him to the Edmomd Hodges in Sevier Co. Tn. or Calloway Co. Ky.

A minor in Edmond's will in 1841. 1851-Isom Hodges lives in Kentucky-sold his share from Edmond, Sr. to William H. Hodges.

Prince RICHARD PLANTAGENET Duke of York

17 Aug 1473 - 23 Jun 1483

ID Number: I28025

  • TITLE: Prince
  • RESIDENCE: ENG
  • BIRTH: 17 Aug 1473
  • DEATH: 23 Jun 1483, Murdered Tower of London
  • RESOURCES: See: [S1034] [S1049] [S2338]
Father: EDWARD IV PLANTAGENET of England
Mother: ELIZABETH (WOODVILLE) WYDEVILLE

Family 1 : ANNE MOWBRAY

Notes

"Prince Richard was the younger son of King Edward IV and was styled Duke of York. His elder brother Edward had been born in 1470 and was Prince of Wales. Richard was married to Lady Anne Mowbray in 1477, but she died in 1481.

Prince Edward became King Edward V in April 1483 upon the death of his father. In June 1483 his uncle Richard proclaimed himself Richard III and the two boys became the famous "Princes in the Tower". Nothing more was seen of them and it is presumed they were murdered on the insructions of Richard III, although there is a school of thought that maintains they were still imprisoned until after the battle of Bosworth in 1485 when Henry Beaufort defeated Richard and became Henry VII. It would have been obnoxious for the new House of Tudor to have two sons of the House of York still alive.

A book by Josephine Tey, called "Daughter of Time" it is a story of a modern day policeman bedridden and given the task to choose an old problem and solve it. He chooses the princes in the Tower and examines all the details that are known and comes to the conclusion they were murdered on behalf of Henry VII. I understand many take this book quite seriously.
Best wishes"

Notes

1850: Census: Alabama: born ca. 1796, age 54; Moved to Lawrence Co., Alabama in or about 1836.

[Janelle & Dale Collier] July 30, 1982: "We feel confident that George Smith and Patsy (Martha) Gentry Smith are the parents of old Joseph buried in Alabama, but the Smiths around Mt. Hope never heard of the parents being there other than the three boys and wives coming in 1845 -- one sister never married and is buried by one of the brothers to Joseph -- we cannot find her on any census and she died 1900 -- really a mystery. Our research in tracing through the census, this George and Patsy left Tennessee about 1836 and the older sons came in 1845 after Alexander Smith died in 1842 -- we have the marriage bond of George and Patsy Gentry Smith -- so many of the Hawkins County records were burned by the Yanks in the Civil War but luckily some were saved and since they named one son Gentry, I am sure this is the right family -- even have their sons living all around them."

[Janelle & Dale Collier] July 14, 1982. "There are so many Smiths around Lawrence County that they do not even know each other or only know they are cousins in some way. We corresponded with Audrey Smith who is from the George Washington Smith line (brother to Joseph, born 1816) and she has furnished us a lot of records from that line. Also some of them are buried at an old cemetery by a church that is still active. Velma and her sister were most helpful as they knew where the Smith cemeteries in the county were."
