Notes

Alice Flake was a great-granddaughter of Captain Thomas Warren, member of the Virginia House of Burgesses and builder of the Rolfe-Warren House in Surry Co., VA. The house is the oldest surviving brick house in VA and was built on property that was given to Princess Pocahontas by her father Chief Powatan as a wedding gift when she married John Rolfe. It is now owned by the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities.

The Reverand John Leland Jr. married Judith Smith, daughter of Baldwin Matthews Smith and his wife, Lucy, on October 19, 1775 (25).

"Rev. James Harrison Stribling, Sr. b 1822 son of Benjamin Haile Stribling and Ruth Bradley Greenwood, was the first divinity student to graduate from Baylor University at Independence, TX. He taught school and pastored there where Dr. Rufus Burleson and Sam Houston were members. He pastored Baptist churches more than 50 years and was also an author. He was a Volunteer in 1842-43 in Sommerville Campaign against the Mexican Invasion. He was in Jack Hays Co. of the TX Army.

James Harrison Stribling, Sr. was born 27 Sept., 1822 Tuscaloosa Co., AL and died 13 Aug., 1892, Eureka Springs, Carroll Co., AR. He married first Jane Cleveland on 21 Sept., 1852, Gonzales, TX. They were second cousins. She was the mother of all of his children. Jane died before 1874 in Tyler, TX.
Maj. Penn was a powerful evangelist who preached all over TX--incuding in Hamilton County."
