"John's family appears to have been typical Scotch-Irish in background. When about age 10, John moved with his father and two older brothers to London, England. His father died shortly after. In his early thirties John was living in St Giles, and working for a near relative, Henry Jackson. John was convicted of stealing 170 pounds in cash and nine rements of gold lace 1/1749 from Henry Jackson. He was banished to America under a seven year indenture. Shipped to Annapolis, Maryland on the ship Litchfield. He met Elizabeth Cummins on the ship.
John served out her term in Cecil Co., Md. He married Elizabeth Cummins in July, 1755. Source: Stonewall Jackson: The Man, The Solider, The Legend by James I Robertson, Jr 1997 page 1-4.
John served in the American Revolutionary War. Abridged Compedium of American Genealogy Vol 1, page 190."
