To: [email protected] Date: Sat, 18 Jul 1998 Subject: Re: Arnold genealogy, From: [email protected] (Robert Silbajoris): Josie, Sorry I can't help you with the GUERRANT/BRYANT lines. Our paths split earlier on. If I got it right, the greatgrandfather of the Isaac Arnold who married Jane Bryant was Thomas Arnold, b. ~1706. He had a brother Isaac who married Sarah Morton. I am trying to fight out if Isaac and Sarah had a son Humphrey who married Harriet Ann Smith. Any info? Rob

Notes

CONFLICT: says - Dr. Richard S. Uhrbrock in "The Colonial Gealogist" Vol, VI No. 1 Winter 1973: contends that Thomas was in Anne Arundel Co. MD 7 months before his father's death (by court records there at that time). The record is of a Thomas Gatwood marrying Rebekah Gott (dau of Robert & Alice Gott) 4 Nov 1707. Two ch were recorded as being born to this couple, Mary b Apr 1709 & Thomas b 7 Feb 1710 & bap 6 May 1711 (Anne Arundel Co.). Thomas is alleged to have returned to Essex Co. VA bef 1715, acquiring 150 acres of land in addition to the 150 acres inherited from his father, John Gatewood.

He then takes Thomas' son Thomas, back to Maryland where he leaves a will signed with a crude "T" indicating he was probably illiterate, he also left several children.
However,Thomas, son of Thomas son of John & Amy, actualy moved to Edgecomb Co. NC where he is referred to as of Northampton Co. NC He had a brother, Ambrose, who left all to the only recorded child he had, Dudley, also of NC. This Thomas, the younger, had listed in his inventory "a passel al books", which would lead one to believe he was able to read.

1730 named as executor in brother Richard's will for Richard's son Richard.

Thomas was in Anne Arundell Co. MD in May 1706. He returned to Essex Co. VA prior to 1715, and purchased and disposed of several tracts of land. His Will was signd 3 Dec 1748 and recorded at the Essex Co. Court, Rappahannock, VA 21 Mar 1748/49. Ambrose Gatewood was named sole Executor.
