The Willis' of England produced a number of sea captains, who
named their first sons, Francis or Henry. The usual story of
three brothers, a Francis Willis, of Oxfordshire, England, had
three sons. These three brothers, Francis, Henry, and William
Willis, moved from England in the 1600's and settled in
Culpepper County, Virginia. One of these, Colonel Henry Willis,
married Mildred Lewis, and is known as the founder of
Fredricksburg, Virginia, because in 1727 he donated the land for
the city.
"Francis moved to Virginia colony about 1665, and inherited
White Hall from his uncle Francis. He was a member of the
Virginia House of Burgesses, and and colonial offer."
