in Charles City Records 1737 - 1774, page 185.
John STITH and Samuel Eale bought 500 acres of land on the North
side of James River on 15 February, 1663, so we know he was
there on that date."
"John Stith came to Virginia before 1656 and settled in Charles
City county. In 1656 he was a lieutenant of militia, in 1676 a
captain, and in 1680 a major. He was also a merchant, a lawyer
and a justice of the peace. He was a prominent supporter of Sir
William Berkeley during Bacon's rebellion in 1676. In 1686 he
was a burgess for Charles City county. He left issue--John
Stith, Drury Stith, Anne, married Colonel Robert Bolling."
