When Wm. and Cullen inherited this 300 acres from their father,
John, in Duplin Co., they left Johnston Co. to go see about
their inheritance.
Abstracts of Deeds, 1784-1813, Vol. 1, Eleanor Smith Draughon.
John and/or Cullen Conerly appear: 16 Nov. 1785, 29 Dec. 1786,
31 Oct. 1786, 16 Nov. 1808.
Duplin Co., NC was formed in 1749 from New Hanover Co. It is
named in honor of George Henry Hay, Lord Duplin, an English
nobleman. The county court minutes date from 1784-1852, but
some of these are missing. There are eleven boxes of marriage
bonds. Since John Connerly's will was made in 1751, Duplin
county was only 2 years old.It was always thought that this
family was of Irish orgin, but in data given by Willie Gray
Conerly Files state this family was of English descent.
