"He lived on a farm of 800 acres near Keswick Depot, VA. He and
his family emigrarted to Georgia after selling his farm to his
brother-in-law, John Harvie. He settled in Oglethorpe Co., GA
near the Broad River in1784.
His family was the first of the Broad River District to quit the
Episcopal church to become Methodists. They organized the first
Methodist Church in their neighborhood in 1788. Bishop Asbury
was a special friend of the family and always made their home
his stopping place when in the locality. [Methodist Societies
and Meeting Houses in the Broad River Valley of Georgia].
