!He enlisted as a Private in the 43rd Regt Tenn. Infantry, E Co. CSA on 5 Nov 1861 at Rogersville. Captured 4 July 1863 at Vicksburg, Ms. and paroled on 9 July 1863. Afterwards, he enlisted in the Union Army as a Private on the 16 March 1864 at Nashville in the 3rd Regt Tenn Cavalry Vols, I Co. Prisoner of war on 25 Sept 1864. Killed on way home by explosion of Sultana on Mississippi River on 27 April 1865.
Minute Book 3, p. 182, 2 Oct 1871 It appearing to the court that Joseph H. Alvis guardian of the minor children of Wilson Absher dec'd, has failed to renew his bond as guardian, and it further appearing to the court that his bond as security is wholly worthless and now rescended. It is therefore ordered by the court that the said Joseph H. Alvis be removed as guardian, and that he make final settlement with the Clerk of this Court, and that the Clerk notify him to appear and make settlement.
Minute Book 3, p. 227, 5 Feb. 1872 Ordered by the Court that George R. Powel be appointed guardian of Amanda Absher and Wilson Absher minor orphans of Wilson Absher dec'd.
