CONFLICT: There is a Conflict in Jane's last name, because of
the last names of her children mentioned in Francis Graves's
deed executed at the time of their marriage.
Her maiden name may have been Davenport, and she may have first
married Mr. Maguffey, secondly Francis Graves, and thirdly John
D. Doughty.
"The marriage of Francis to Jane was his second (according to
Mrs. Sue Davis). At the time of his marriage to Jane he gave
certain cattle to his step-children, John and Jane Maguffey and
Elizabeth Davenport (Old Rappahannock Records, Deeds and Wills
6, p. 57). The original deed preserved among the loose papers of
Essex Co. and shows Francis Graves's firm signature."
Jane may have been married 4 times, the 1st to a Maguffey and
had two children John and Jane Maguffey, the 2nd to a Davenport
and had a child Elizabeth Davenport; 3rd by 28 Nov 1678 to
Francis Graves and lastly to John D. Doughty. Or Elizabeth
Davenport may be her married name.
Book Marriages VA 1607-1800.
On page 140 "Francis, b. ca 1630; d. ca Aug. 1691, son of Capt.
Thomas and Katherine ? of Northampton Co.; m. by 28 Nov 1678,

Davenport. She m. (3) John Doughty of Essex Co. Cowherd, pp.
322-3."
Jane is listed under Davenport m. Jane Maguffey who m. (2) by
1678, Francis Graves, m. (3) John Doughty..
And then again under Maguffey.
Jane m. (1) _____Davenport, m. (2) Francis Graves, m. (3) John
Doughty.
On page 143 "Thomas m. Ann Davenport. Their dau. m. in 1759.

Jane (Maguffey) Davenport Graves; m. ca 1708 Elizabeth Moody, b.
1690; d. on 1738, dau. of John and Mary of Essex Co. Cowherd p.
323."
In 1694, after Francis had died and Jane had remarried John
Doughty, this new husband deeded certain property to Jane's
sons, Francis, Richard, and Thomas Graves (Essex Deeds and Wills
6, Reverse of book, p. 296). Doughty died between 1704, when he
is listed in the Quit Rent Roll (Va. Mag., vol. 33, p. 262), and
1715, when Francis and Thomas Graves (sons of Jane and Francis)
appear on the list (Essex Quit Rent Roll 1715, Archives
Div.,State Library).
She was born Aft. 1636 in No one is sure if she was Jane
Davenport Maguffey or Jane Maguffey Davenport, and died May 2,
1694 in She had children prior to her marriage to Francis.

THE FEASTER FAMILY: After their removal to South Carolina, the
Colemans became so extensively connected with the Feaster Family
that this Book might more appropriately have been named the
Coleman-Feaster History. The Feasters appear throughout, and
the extensive Feaster Genealogy written by Mrs. Jennie I.
Coleman will be found in Chapter 22."
"On November 5, 1652, Lt. Col. Walter Chiles, of James City
County, Virginia, in which Jamestown and Williamsburg were
located, conveyed to Robert Coalman a tract of 813 acres on the
south side of the Appomattox River, in Charles City County, now
Prince George. This Robert Coalman of 1652, who spelled it
Coleman by 1668, is the first ancestor in America of all that
line of Colemans hereafter to be described in this book."
"The author has found many printed references, from many
sources, of family traditions that Thomas Coleman, William
Coleman, and Nicholas Coleman came to Virginia "together" and
were brothers. It is understood that Nicholas Coleman later
migrated to Pennsylvania. It is altogether reasonable to suppose
that they came to join Robert Coleman, Sr., who was there by
1652, and equally reasonable to suppose that all four were
brothers."
The foregoing evidence indicates the following:
First Generation: Robert Coleman, Sr., 1652-1688.
Second Generation: Robert Coleman, Jr., died 1721. Captain John
Coleman. Warner Coleman, died 1689. William Coleman (cousin)
Died in Amelia, 1745.
Third Generation: Frances Coleman, still alive 1739.
Fourth Generation: Francis Coleman, Jr., still alive 1761. John
Coleman, who received deed, 1721.
Fifth Generation: Robert Coleman, who settled in Halifax
County, North Carolina, 1756.
William Tucker (Sr.) was the Administrator of the estate of
Robert Coleman, Sr., in 1688.
