p. 68 - "In abt 1735, John Godbold was among the 1st to come to the region of Liberty Precinct (now Marion Dist.) SC, located lower down the Pedee River from the Welch Neck settlement. He was an Englishman and a long time sailor in the British service. During the French & Indian wars, he was plundered of almost all the personal property he had gathered Of thirty negroes, twenty-two were taken from him and never recovered. He m. Elizabeth M'Gurney, they had John, James, and Thomas; and Elizabeth and Anne.


John Godbold was a member of the Church of England and died in 1765 at the age of more than 100 years."

TO ALL PEOPLE to whom this present writing shall come I John Godbold Senior of Craven County in the province of South Carolina planter send GREETING KNOW YE that I the said John Godbold as well for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear unto my well beloved son John Godbold as for divers other good causes and considerations me hereunto moving have given and granted and do by these presents do fully clearly and absolutely give and grant and confirm unto my said son John Godbold One hundred and fifty acres of land of the tract that I the said John Godbold Senior now lives upon the South part of it


Do I the said John Godbold Senr. for the same consideration as above me moving do fully clearly and absolutely give and grant to my well beloved son Thomas Godbold One hundred and fifty acres of land out of the above Tract being the North side TO HAVE AND TO HOLD as their own property from me their Father John Godbold Senr. for ever from the date of these Present Writings as also to their Executors

Meeting of the 6th February 1738/9
Read the Petiton of John Godbold setting forth that he had obtained a Warrant for Two hundred and Fifty acres of Land in the Year 1732 that the Secretary in filling up the said Warrant made a mistake and wrote
James instead of John so that the Petitoner can't get his Platt out of the Surveyor Generals Office till the mistake be rectifyed He therefore Humbly prays that the said Mistake be rectifyed that he may have a Grant for the said Land Ordered that the said mistake be rectifyed accordingly.

Meeting of Tuesday A.M. 5 February 1754 Page 85:
The petition of John Godbold humbly setting Forth That The Petitoner is desireous of setling himself and Family about Catfish Creek where your Petitioner has found some proper Land for him to settle on. He
hath a wife and five Children for whom he never had any warr't or grant of Land. Therefore he prays to lay out 300 acres of Land on Catt fish Creek as aforesaid so that he may have a Grant for the same. Charles Town, the 5th Feb'ry 1754. John Godbold. The prayer thereof was granted.


Everyone may have these already, but I just found them and decided to post them for the group just in case. This puts John in SC in 1732.
I also found the following in "Bonded Passenger to America, Vol. V-IX, 1663-1775:"
Norfolk (Vol. VII) John Godbolt. S 14 yrs (Norwich) Summer 1764
for receiving goods stolen by Samuel Mills (Q.V" [S964] [S2656] [S2656]
