"John Gregory, Jr.: His date of birth is unknown. He was old enough to property away on 9 December 1676. Based on this fact, I would say that he was at least age 21 in December 1676, meaning that he was born no later than 1655. He died in 1678 in Old Rappahannock Co., VA. From his Will, it does not appear that he was married or that he had children.

On 9 Dec. 1676 John Grigory (sic), tanner, son and heir apparent of John Grigory (sic), tanner, deceased, deeded 100 acres in Old Rappahannock Co., VA, on Gregories’s Creek, adjacent to Bishop, Henry Awbery, plantation of John Gregory, near Church Road Swamp. [Old Rappahannock Co., VA, Deed & Wills Book, 1677-1682, Part I, Page 127]

On 20 January 1677/78 (or 1676/77?) John Gregory (Jr.), planter, deeded 250 acres in Old Rappahannock Co., VA on Hoskins Creek to his sister, Elizabeth, now the wife of Thomas Wheeler. This deed was recorded on 10 August 1677 (1678?). [Old Rappahannock County Deed Book, 1677-1682, page 134]

On 18 December 1677 John Gregory, Jr., wrote his Will. It was proved in Old Rappahannock Co., VA on 4 September 1678. In his will he gives 480 acres that was devised to him by Robert Bishop (and that was purchased by Robert Bishop from Henry Awbrey) to his sister, Mary Gregory. He gives a cow to Katherine Armstrong (no relationship stated). He gave a cow to his sister, Elizabeth. He appoints his brother, Richard Gregory, as executor. The witnesses were Thomas Games and James Fugett.

On 21 April 1676 Robert Bishop of the Parish of Farnham, County of Rappahannock, VA wrote his Will, proved on 6 June 1677 in which is does not mention a wife or child. He mentions land, which he bought from Henry Newberry (Awbury) which he devised to John Gregory, Jr. He also appoints John Gregory, Jr. as executor. His witnesses were Thomas Wheeler, John Garner (Games?) and John Burnett. He also wrote a codicil to the will dated 24 May 1676 (same witnesses) in which he mentions his brother-in-law John Jones, presumably his nephew John Jones, Jr. (“when he comes of age”) and “John Gregory’s pen.”

Note: Since there is no evidence that this Robert Bishop was married, I assume that his sister married John Jones.

On 18 Feb. 1673/74 John Pigg and Thomas Hall received a land patent in New Kent Co., VA (Patent Book 6, page 502). One of the headrights was Robert Bishoppe.

On 3 September 1669 Henry Awberry received a land patent of 480 acres in Rappahannock Co., VA, joining the land of Awberry, Posrahian (Piscataway ?) Creek (Patent Book 6, page 245). This may or may not be the 480 acres involved in the Robert Bishop and John Gregory, Jr., Wills. This 480 acres was patented to James Taylor on 21 Oct. 1687. (Patent Book 7, Page 596)."
