LEVI5 DOUGHTY, the progenitor of most of the Doughty families in
Louisiana, with his wife, ABIGAIL MORGAN, arrived in Louisiana
about 1806, with their children.
They came from Darlington District, South Carolina, together
with the Rentzs, Morgans, and Whites. From SC, they floated on
flatboats down the Tennessee River, Ohio and Mississippi River
to Natchez, Mississippi, from where they traveled via wagon to
what is now East Feliciana Par., Louisiana.
When Levi arrived in Louisiana, he owned four slaves, five head
of horses, household property, and "a large sum of money." They
settled north of the Amite River between the present towns of
Woodville and Chipola, Louisiana. Their marble gravemarkers
indicate Levi was b. 1 March 1763 and d. 28 April 1854. Abigail
Morgan was b. 1766 and died 17 August 1825.
In the early 1830's, Mary (Polly) Doughty, who married William
Stewart, and her sister Nancy Doughty, who married Burnell Pool,
came with their families from East Feliciana Parish to Catahoula
Parish, Louisiana. They were daughters of Levi Doughty and
Abigail Morgan. Richard Doughty and Benajah Doughty, grandsons
of Levi and Abigail (sons of Reuben Doughty and Mary Reece),
also moved to Catahoula Parish.
See LaSalle Parish Geneal. Assoc., LaSalle Parish History,
Families Past [*] and Present, (Curtis Media Corp.: Dallas,
Texas, 1989) Doughty
I have included here information on the first generation
(Mayflower), then skipped to the generation that removed to
Louisiana. See LaSalle Family History for additional details.
See also the cemetery survey of Pine Grove Cemetery, Blade,
LaSalle Par., Louisiana, where a number of these Doughtys and
their kin are buried.
LEVI P.5 DOUGHTY (BENJAMIN4, JAMES3, SAMUEL2, EDWARD1 DOTY), b.
01 Mar 1763, probably in Chatham Co., North Carolina, d. 28 Apr
28 1854. He married ABIGAIL MORGAN, b. 1766, d. 17 Aug 1825.
Levi and Abigail are buried near Felixville in East Feliciana
Par., Louisiana. Children of LEVI DOUGHTY and ABIGAIL MORGAN
are:"

This family came from the same location as our John Hodges and
Ann Standard about the same time - they must have known each
other. Our Hodges connect to Waddells and Norwoods of old
Cheraw and Darlington, SC, they migrated to Wilkinson Co. MS and
after John's death to St. Heleana and E. Feliciana Parish, LA.
