John immigrated to the States at least by 1668 when he married
Sarah and they settled in North Carolina by 1679. He paid taxes
on 300 acres on Yawpim Creek, Perquimans, NC in the middle
1690's.
Of their nine children, four or five of them died before their
father did in 1718. William died about 1716, Elizabeth at age 11
in1687, perhaps Ann who was a widow a year after her marriage,
Sarah probably died young, and George died about 1712. His wife
Sarah had preceeded him in death four years before.
John Sr. left a will in Mar 1717/1718 which was probated in Aug
1718. He left several things to his remaining three sons and one
daughter, not knowing of course that his son James would follow
him to the grave 8 days later and John 9 days later. (An
epidemic?). By the time the will was probated, there were only
two heirs left.
In his will he left 12 pound 12 pence to daughter Joanah
Willams.
He divided his plantation between sons John & Joseph and gave
Joseph an additional 220 acres and his Negro boy Sambo. James
was left 300 acres and all of the stock, as well as his father's
Negro woman and two Negro boys named Tom and Sam. James also was
to recieve a great chest and its contents, a small chest, a
horse, two saddles and tack, two guns and a Negro girl named
Rooth.
