"5. George2 Markham (John1) birth date unknown. He married
twice. He married Sarah Hill after 11 April 1774 (bond date) in
Chesterfield Co, VA. He married Mary Osborne 11 July 1789 in
Chesterfield Co, VA.(44).
In John Markham's will written 20 Oct 1770 in Chesterfield Co,
VA, George was named as his son.(45) George took out a bond to
marry Sarah Hill 11 April 1774 in Chesterfield Co, VA.(46).
George Markham and Sarah Hill had the following children:
i. George3 Markham(47) was born after 1774.
ii. Martha Markham(48) was born after 1774. She married Mr.
Robertson.(49) was born maybe around 1775.
iii. Bernard Markham was born after 1774. Bernard died 1809 at
34 years of age. He married Elizabeth Osborne 22 Feb 1808 in
Chesterfield Co, VA.(50) An inventory of Bernard's estate valued
about 46 pounds was taken 19 Jan 1810 and recorded 10 Feb 1810
in Amelia Co, VA.(51) The greatest items were 41 barrels of corn
at 10 shillings each, 31 gallons of brandy at 5 shillings, and a
sorrel black mare worth 4 1/2 pounds.
iv. Francis Markham was born maybe about 1789.
George Markham and Mary Osborne had the following children:
v. John Finney Markham(52) was born after 1789.
vi. Mary Osborne Markham(53) was born after 1789.
vii. George Crawley Markham(54) was born after 1790. He married
Ann Finney 1820. In the 1820 Census, George was listed as a head
of household in Chesterfield Co, VA.(55) He and another man were
age 18-25, with a young woman 16-25. Five persons were engaged
in agriculture; there were thirteen slaves of various ages in
the household. In the 1830 Census, George was listed as a head
of household in Chesterfield Co, VA.(56) He was in his 30s, his
wife in her 20s, with a boy and a girl 5-9, a boy and two girls
under age 5, and ten slaves.
viii. Ann Frances Markham(57) was born after 1790.
ix. Martha Markham(58) was born after 1791.
x. Vincent Markham was born circa 1801.

This book cites Cantrell's History as saying [a man] was in the
Pack Horse War under Capt. George Rice, who was on the staff of
Col. Boquet in 1756. Says this meant he may have served under
Geo. Washington when the latter occupied Winchester in 1755 in
support of Gen. Braddock.
Further cites a ref. given only as "Hiltman" as saying the man
also served 1776-1778 under Capt. George Rice, 11th Co., VA,
commanded by Col. Christian Fuberger. Rice appears as Capt. of
Reserve Co. No. 9, Artillery, 11th VA Reg't as of Nov. 30, 1778.

Frederick Co. to Robert Hollingsworth of same. 179 acres, one

Michael and Bartholomew Smith with George Rice's line:

George and Elizabeth move on to Kentucky after they sale their
land in Frederick Co. George's will is probated 9 July 1795 in
Frederick Co. Also filed in Woodford Co., Kentucky.
George was granted thousands of acres of land in the new lands
in Kentucky for his military service in th Rev. War. Some of his
land holdings were purchased of Harvie, Taylor, and Thornton.
included lands on the Little Sandy River where it emptied into
the Ohio.
He left the land to his 6 children and his four nieces in his
will. Early Greenup Co., Ky. Court documents and deed books
record the many transactions involving this land.
