The admin bond dated May 17, 1791 shows John Hodges, Thoma Evans & Abel Waddell are jointly holden in the sum of 300 lbs Sterling money (all signed no Xs).


Ltr of Appraisement: May 26, 1791 directed to Robert Lide, James Meggs, Jolley Webb and Benjamin Kolb and Oct 4, 1791, Benj Kolb, James Meggs and Robert Lide qualified. Appraisement was made 1 Feb 1792.

Spouse: Frances. 1808 WILL: Spanish Dominion, Providence of Louisiana, district of New Feliciana: July 22 1808: In the name of God Amen I Samuel Kirkland of the place aforesaid calling to mind the certainty of death and the uncertanty of the time and manner thereof and being in perfect mind thereof and being __ profect mind and disposing memory do hereby make my last will and testament revoking all wills and testaments by me hereafter made. In the first place of the Goods and Chattels, Lands and Tenements of which I now possesse or of which I may be posseed previous to my death, I bequeath, will and dispose of in the following manner viz:


(1) I give and bequeath to my nephew Samuel (of James) O. Kirkland son of William Kirkland my Thinspahoa (?) plantation on which I now live with all the all (sic) the stock thereunto belonging. (@) Also, one negro boy named Jack to Samuel Taylor the son of Jerimiah Taylor and Sarah his wife sum of $500
(3) I bequeath to le Samual Friedberg (?) son of my sister (?) Exasseth (?) the sum of $500.
(4) I bequeath to Lear Witmore the son of William Whitmore and Sarah his wife the sum of $500.
(5) I bequeath to Samuel Tolkins (?) son of James Tokin (?) and Amy his wife the sum of $500.
(6) I bequeath Sarah Terry (or Tory) daghter of Chamsess Toerry and Hannah his wife the sum of $500.
(7) I bequeath to my beloved wife Frances Kirkland all I possess whatsoever real or personal to be held by her and be enjoyed for during her natural life after my just debt are all paid. Also all that I may requre at my ______.
After her de____ it is my will and pleasure that after support and arpudiations during her life that all remaining shall go to children of my Brother William Pierson Kirkland Hiers --- To Priscilla, William, Samuel, John and Joseph equally to be divided share and share alike.


It is my will and pleasure that no part of my property whether real or personal shall be sold or
dispossed of unless by the express direction of my executor, herein after mentioned. And that only for the payment of debt when cash may not be on hand if such shassle appear and then only as much as may be necessary for the discharge thereof after the ______ all my property to be in the ___disposed of my beloved wife Frances Kirkland during her natural life and then
to go as above bequeathed and disposed of.


In full consideratin that my bequest and will will be duly executed according to my intentions, I fully confide in my beloved wife, Frances Kirkland and my respected Brother William Kirkland and my faithful friend Bomar to the will my intentions before expressed and do hereby appoint them executors of this my last will and testament. It is further my wish and desire that the Legacies afore mentioned shall be paid out of the rent proceeds of the Crops as the executors shall see proper.


I wish likewise that the property may be all kept together until such time as my Nephew Joseph Kirkland son of William Kirkland as come of age and if any of the children Kirkland aforsaid should marry before the aforesaid Jospeh Kirkland is of age such child so marrying shall be paid $1,000 out of the neat proceeds of the crops as a part of his Legacy. And it is further my will that the Offices of Government do have nothing to do with this my last will and due forbid them interfering with my executors whom I do request to qualify and execute this my will agreeable to his magestity Edit to the Govenor A Pertories. In witness of the presence I have hereudersigned.

This day appeared before John Rhea, Judge of the said Parish and of the court of probate Sterling Rheams who being sworn on the holy Evangelist of Almight God declared that he was present when Samuel Kirkland deceased signed the foregoing instruemt of writing and offixed the seal thereto and that he acknowledged the same to be his will and testament that he the said stating _____ ___ and in ___ ___ signature he now recognizes and acknowledges to be his hand writing. It witness whereof in esence of the said witnessess he now signs the distrantation. )(?) Sterling Rheams.

James Trahun, Emilie Rhea, John Rhea, Parish Judge Parish of Feliciana Court of Probate.


This day personally appeared before me John P. Hamption, Judge os said Court, Fredrick Fort, who has been duly sworn deposeth and saith that he recognizes his signiture to the envelope of the and that he in presence of Sterling Rheams and other witnesses within named subscribed his name as witness of the said will of Samuel Kirkland, deceased and that the said Samuel in his presence duly acknowledged signed & published this said will as his last will and Testament. In witness whereof the said Frederick Fort ____the 21st day of April 1812 signed with me this declaration in presence of James M. Bradford and George McQuire. Frederick Fort. John P. Hampton James M. Bradford, George McQuire.
Parish of Feliciana, LA. To Hugh Mchill, Judge of the parish of aforesaid certify the foregoing to be a true copy of the original now on file in my place.
