William FARRAR

ABT 1730 - 1788

ID Number: I84247

  • RESIDENCE: Chesterfield and Mecklenburg Co. VA and Granville Co. NC
  • BIRTH: ABT 1730, Chesterfield Co. Virginia
  • DEATH: 1788, Granville Co. North Carolina
  • RESOURCES: See: notes
Father: George FARRAR
Mother: Judith JEFFERSON

Notes

"Among George and Judith’s children was William Farrar who was born in Chesterfield County, VA. The first son to be named in his father’s will, he was probably the oldest living son of George Farrar, Sr. Alvahn Holmes states that "William Farrar was a Sergeant in the French and Indian War...under Major William Caldwell...for which he probably received a grant of land." William moved with his parents to Mecklenburg County, Virginia where he married on 24 July 1780 to Lucy Medley . Farrar family tradition states Lucy to be his second wife. On 19 May 1781, William sold his land and in 1784 purchased 500 acres in Granville County, North Carolina. "He probably was influenced to move there by his brother Field and his own sons William, Abel, George and possibly John who had served in the Revolutionary Army in NC." William Farrar Sr.’s will was probated in Granville County, NC in August 1788."

Notes

Query: From: Jevetts [email protected] Date: Fri, 5 Dec 1997. I'm looking for the wife of Hugh G. Hodges (b. 1790/1794 in SC and died 1843 Sumter Co, AL). I think her first name was Olivia. They married before 1820 in Marion County, SC. Hugh was the son of Robert Hodges (b. 1750 Craven Co, SC and d. 1816 Marion Co, SC) and Mary Lide (b. 1763 Cheraws District SC and d. 1816 Marion Co, SC). Hugh's son William Henry Hodges (my great grandfather) moved to Texas in 1870 and settled in Wise County.

Children of William Hodges and Sarah Watson are:

i. David Hugh Hodges, born July 14, 1870 in Tyler, Smith County, Texas; died May 30, 1918 in Illinois Bend, Montague County, Texas (buried at Illinois Bend Cemetery); married Martha E. Garrison December 24, 1893 in St. Jo, Montague County, Texas.

ii. Bettie Hodges, born January 22, 1872 in Decatur, Wise County, Texas; died March 04, 1966 in Alvord, Wise County, Texas (buried in Hopewell Cemetery); married Harvey S.
