"(6) Sherwood Haywood, son of Colonel William Henry Haywood and his wife Charity Hare Haywood, was born in 1782. He died in 1829. He married Eleanor Hawkins (who was born 1776, died 1855). They had nine children.


(a) Ann Haywood (who married William A. Blount, and had children, Major William A. Blount, second, of Raleigh, and Ann Blount, who married General L. O'Bryan Branch and had Susan O'Bryan Branch, married Robert H. Jones, William A. Branch; and Ann Branch, married Armistead Jones; and Josephine Branch, who married Kerr Craige of Salisbury);


(b) Sarah Haywood (who married twice, first John Gray Blount and second Gavin Hogg, leaving no children by either husband);


(c) Delia Haywood (who married twice, first General William Williams and second George E. Badger. Her son by her first marriage was Colonel Joseph John Williams of Tallahassee, Florida. By her second marriage she had seven children, namely: Mary Badger, married P. M. Hale, George Badger, second, Major Richard Cogdell Badger, Thomas Badger, Sherwood Badger, Edward Stanley Badger, and Ann Badger, who married twice, first --- Bryan and second, Colonel Paul Eaison);


(d) Dr. Rufus Haywood (who died unmarried);


(e) Lucy Haywood (who married John S. Bryan and had four children, namely: A daughter who married Bail Manly, a daughter who married Thomas Badger, a daughter who married William H. Young and John S. Bryan, second,);


(f) Francis P. Haywood (who married twice, first Ann Farell and second Mrs. Martha Joyner Austin, daughter of Colonel Andrew Joyner of Halifax;

Notes


Benjamin was a Revolutionary War Soldier listed in the Eighth Annual Report of the Virginia State Library at Richmond, VA. His Will dated 20 May 1809 and probated in Elbert Co. GA, 3 September 1810. In his will Benjamin gave one Negro, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one sow and pigs and one horse valued at seventy dollars to each of his seven children. He also gave his daughter Mary one hundred dollars, one bridle and saddle. His son Larkin also received one hundred dollars. The balance of his estate was to be divided equally amongst all his children.


pp 224 & 243.Larkin Gatewood surety on Mar. Rec. Will names children: Sarah, Anny, Elizabeth, Benjamin Graves, Peter, Mary & Larkin. Son Benjamin Graves Higginbotham & John Upshaw, Jr., execs. Wit:Jacob Higginbotham, Sr, John Upshaw, Leroy Upshaw & Francis Satterwhite.


Francis Higginbotham appointed guardian of Mary, orphan of Benjamin Higginbotham, John Ham & Charles Carter, sec. 7 Jan 1811 Elbert co.
