"It seems he may have married in GA and had several children
before moving to Dallas Co. AL before 1810, where his first wife
died. He married again and had other children, then moved to
Kemper County, MS before 1835. In 1840 they lived in Bienville,
Parish, LA a few miles south of Arcadia, whre he died in 1852.
His widow Mary N. Bradford? and several younger children then
moved to Smith Co. TX. Descendants of this couple live in East
TX and North LA. Descendants from the older set of children are
believed to have remained in MS."
"When William died they had several children, three of whom were
minors. Mary was made guardian and administratrix to the
estate, along with Jackson as co-administrator.
In about 1854 Mary and four of the younger children moved to
Smith Co. TX near Tyler. As guardian, Mary was required by law
to pass the distributive shrares of William's estate to her
minor children as they reached majority or married. These final
settlement records are the earlliest Higginbotham files in Smith
Co. and names Adeline, Mary Jane, and Perry. An older son,
Walker Hubbard, also moved to Smith Co. TX."

On 13 June 1688, William Bateman, and Christine, his wife, and
John Gray signed as bondsmen for settlement of the estate of
John Wheeler, Jr., and an inventory was filed 15 June 1688 by
Walter Phelps and James Gray. (46-08-00, inv. & Accts. 10, 87).
No children could be identified, and none were mentioned in the
will of John Wheeler, Sr.
This is the beginning of a long list of Wheelers who migrated
from Maryland to Virginia, to Tennessee & Alabama, then met in
Texas. One of the Wheelers owned the land where Arlington
Cemetery is now located - about 100 years before Robert E. Lee
owned the property. Another Wheeler was Lt. Governor of Texas.
Wheeler Station, TN (later naned Careyville, now Caryville) was
established by the Wheeler family.
