The Vernon family is discussed at some length in _Haddon / The
Manor, The Hall, Its Lords and Traditions_, by G. Le Blanc
Smith; published by Elliot Stock, London (1906).
Vernon, as Redvers, is covered exhaustively in _Charters of the
Redvers Family and the Kingdom of Devon 1090-1217_, by Robert
Bearman, published by the Devon and Cornwall Record Society, New
Series Vol.37, (1994).
See also ANGLO-NORMAN STUDIES 5 (1982) for "The House of Redvers
and its Monastic Foundations" by Frederick Hockey.
Also, there has been a lot of argument on the precise
relationship or identicality between Redvers/Reviers/Rivers and
Vernon, though there are plenty of attested descents. I don't
have any confidence myself that all the arguments have been
settled, though I am cross-posting this to
soc.genealogy.medieval in the hopes that someone more qualified
than I can tell us the Real Story.
_Historical Memoirs of the House of Vernon_, published in the
mid 19th Century in England. It is pretty obscure; as far as I
know only two copies exist in the US, but you will probably have
better luck in Europe. My notes do not include the name of the
author (sorry) but that is the correct title.
