Mother: Elizabeth LITTELL (LITTLE) |
Obit. Quincy, of Lower St.Matthews fell dead in his buggy from
heart disease during the Democratic celebration last Thurs.in
Orangeburg. The body was taken to Maj. .WHALEY's, his s-i-l. He
was a sucessful farmer. The little town of Parler is situated on
Highway No.45, on the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, and is about
five miles east of Elloree. The vast surrounding acreage was
originally owned by James Quincy PARLER and his wife Barbara
(WHITMORE). To this union were born a large family and in due
season a goodbye settlement was made of each child. Other
settlers came to this section and played an important part in
the welfare of lower Orangeburg District. In 1886 the R.R. was
given the right of way through this section, and Eugene M.
PARLER became Depot Agent. During the year 1870 Eugene built the
first house in the
present town, and therefore he is said to have been the founder
of the village, which bears his name....compiled by Emmie May
BOOKHART.
It is said that John Quincy intended to name his dgts. after the
states of the Union; succeeded in naming three of them in such a
manner, Texas, Missouri and Virginia.
