Mother: Elizabeth HILL |
By 1627 MARY BUCKETT (in the 1627 Plymouth division of cattle
George Soule had wife Mary and son Zachariah; Mary has been
identified by many writers as Mary Buckett of the 1623 land
division on that basis that no other Mary was available in the
limited Plymouth population of the earliest years). She died
about December 1672 (son John Soule indicated in an account of
1676 that "my mother died which was three year the last
December" [MD 2:83-84]).
MARY BUCKETT: In the 1623 Plymouth land division, Marie Buckett,
as a passenger on the Anne in 1623, is granted one acre
"adjoining to Joseph Rogers" [PCR 12:6].
COMMENTS: For reasons discussed in his sketch, she has been
identified as the wife of GEORGE SOULE. Most writers call her
Mary Becket, but the above spelling is the only contemporaneous
one we have.
Passenger list, ship Anne, 1623: The ship Anne arrived in
Plymouth in July, 1623 accompanied by the Little James, bringing
new settlers along with many of the wives and children that had
been left behind in Leyden when the Mayflower departed in 1620.
This ship passenger list is reconstructed from the 1623 Division
of Land, the passenger list compiled by Charles Banks in
Planters of the Commonwealth, and the research found in Eugene
Aubrey Stratton's Plymouth Colony: Its History and Its People,
1620-1691. The author is a descendant of Anne passengers Ellen
Newton, Mrs. Elizabeth Warren, Abigail Warren, Mrs. Barbara
Standish, Mary Becket, and Francis Sprague.
