Notes

"John H. Hawkins was born between 1669 - 1680 and died abt. 1742 in Prince William County, Virginia. There was another John Hawkins who, died testate in Essex County, Virginia in 1726. His will remains of, record and he left a family. This John was a son of Capt. Thomas, Trotter who had a land patent 1666 at the falls of the Rappahannock, River. They were contemporaries.

In the winter of 1724-5 he seems to have moved over into King William County, Virginia, for on July 6, 1725, Harry Beverly conveyed to him, describing him as "John Hawking of King William County, planter" 400 acres of land on the North East side of Pamunkey River, and on bothsides of the mouth of Terry's Run, alias Jigging River. He died prior to October 7 1740, leaving a wife, Mary (Long) and children."

The father of Mary Polly Hawkins, three of his children married three children of Samuel Smith of Spotsylvania Co., Virginia. There is a grant of a John Hawkins of King and Queen County, Virginia, 1731. Kathryn Salyers says that this John Hawkins must have been married twice, with children by both wives.

"John Hawkins, a younger son of John and Mary (Dewe) Hawkins, born about 1680, emigrated to Virginia about 1705, and finally settled in St. Anne's Parish, Essex County, Virginia. On November 3, 1724, Thomas Chew of Spotsylvania County, Gentleman, conveyed to him, describing him as "John Hawkins of St. Anne's Parish, Essex County, Gentleman "1280 acres of land in St. George's Parish, Spotsylvania County, which had been granted to said Chew by patent dated June 12, 1723. And on the same day, Larkin Chew conveyed to him, under the same designation, 501 additional acres, also in St. George's Parish, Spotsylvania County, being part of a patent granted to Larkin Chew, June 4, 1722.

Anny JOHNSON

ABT 1790 - ____

ID Number: I56294

  • RESIDENCE: of Edgefield Co. SC & AL?
  • BIRTH: ABT 1790
  • RESOURCES: See: [S896]

Family 1 : Philip? HAZEL
  1. +Seth Fields (Seth F.) HAZEL

Notes

"Sethfield HAZEL's mother was Anny/Amey JOHNSON. No question about that -- source is the probate record of Charity JOHNSON of Edgefield Co, SC listing "children of Amey Hazel" as heirs. This is thought to be a misreading of her name as Anny is a sister of Mary JOHNSON ROGERS and she is listed as Anny HAZEL in a proceeding to get her sister's estate settled (also Edgefield Co).
Their father was David JOHNSON. Also no question -- there is a pre-nuptial agreement on file in Edgefield when Mary JOHNSON married Daniel ROGERS, Sr. giving her father money on her behalf."
