"The McCarthys in Early American History", page 86.
Others for whom Washington made land surveys about the same time
in Frederick County were Darby McKeever, Barney McHandry,
Patrick Mathews, Dr. James McCormick, Hugh Rankin, Thomas
McClanahan,Thomas and Francis Carney, Edward Hogan, Francis and
William McBride, Daniel McKelduff, Patrick Rice and John
Madden."
Patrick Rice "The Irish Immigrant" recieved land patents on
April 4,1752 and Jan. 9, 1767 in Frederick County, Virginia from
Thomas Lord Fairfax. On the Long Marsh.9 January 1767.
Northern Neck Grants, reels 288-311. Location: Frederick County.
Description: 385 acres adjoining Lord Fairfax and Geo Martin.
Source: Northern Neck Grants O, 1767-1770, p. 6 (Reel 296).
His wife Elizabeth is thought to be a Brooks.
Many early land and will transactions are witnesses by the
Brooks
descendants. Son George also married an Elizabeth Brooks.
As early as 2/9 /1743 members of a Rice family are recorded in
Fredericksville Parish. A William Rice and Thomas Rice are
listed there at least until 2/13/1756 when they are establishing
the property lines for the Parish. I find no records connecting
them to Patrick, however. Other early Rice settlers in the area
were Mathias and John Rice.
The three known sons of Patrick Rice are Capt. George Rice Rev.
War soldier from Frederick Co., Virginia, Edmund Rice, and John
Rice. Their early offsprings married into the Wilson,
Hollingsworth, Boyd, Culver, McCormick, Sullivan, Kiger, Brooks,
Castleman, Cowan, Roach, Biggs,Rees, and other families. They
consentrated in the areas of Greenup,Boyd, Carter, Lawrence,
Kentucky as well as the areas of Louisville, Nelson Co.,
Cumberland, and Mason Co., Ky.
