The only solid clue I have is that Duward Lee YORK's death is
recorded in Texas Death Records, 1952, Vol. 3. That record
states that he died 2 May 1952 in Marion Co., Texas. It is File
#24462.
My maternal grandfather, Duward Lee YORK, left Marietta, GA
about 1910 for Waco, TX---or so goes family tradition. He did
live in Waco in the early 1940's when my parents, my sister, and
I visited him there. It was the first time my mother had seen
him since she was 5 years old. It was also the last time she, or
any of us, saw him.
About the only other thing I know about him is that his second
wife was named Bessie (as in Bessie Melvin ALVIS). Also, my aunt
gave me a copy of a photo of him taken when he was a young man
of 30 or so years old (my guess from the photo).
His leaving Marietta is a painful subject in my family, although
no one is still alive who was there at the time. It was rarely
mentioned—I do not know the circumstances of his leaving. All I
remember about him is that he was a tall man.
If you are interested, I do have a fair amount of YORK family
information, at least concerning my aunts, uncles, and cousins.
I will be more than happy to share that with you. Also, I can
make a copy of the photo of Duward if you would like to have
it."
